His first engagement this spring will take Terrell to Hong Kong to conduct Opera Hong Kong’s March 25 and 26 concerts, Broadway Extravanganza. Terrell will conduct four star vocalists, soprano Katie Dixon, soprano Meredith Lustig, Jonathan Blalock and Wes Mason in a program featuring an eclectic mix of Broadway hits, including West Side Story, Phantom of the Opera, Les Misèrables and many more.
Jonathan Blalock, tenor, last joined LexPhil in December 2011 for Handel’s Messiah.
Terrell’s work with other organizations has helped put LexPhil on the map as a place to expect great talent and experiences.
“Scott’s engagements throughout the U.S. and abroad keep us abreast of leading-edge talent and presentation, making the Lexington Philharmonic a first place for audiences to see the best emerging national and international music talent,” says Allison Kaiser, LexPhil Executive Director.
LexPhil Board President Mike McNalley agrees.
“We always benefit from the new connections and ideas Maestro Terrell brings back to LexPhil after guest conducting with other orchestras and operas,” says McNalley. “At the same time, these engagements underscore the recognition of LexPhil and our Maestro among orchestras across the country.”
Terrell continues his cover conductor duties with the Philadelphia Orchestra for Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, April 21, 22, and 23, 2016. He joined the Philadelphia Orchestra’s cover conductor staff in 2012. Terrell also facilitates the Philadelphia Orchestra’s PreConcert Conversation, their equivalent of LexPhil’s Inside the Score pre-concert lecture series.
Other recent engagements with the Philadelphia Orchestra include an outreach concert at the Reading Terminal in March 2015, where market attendees had the chance to conduct an ensemble of Philadelphia Orchestra musicians.
Terrell himself is an Aspen alum, and has enjoyed numerous returns.
“Aspen is always pleased to welcome back one of its alumni. Scott Terrell is a luminary who has successfully forged his way in the music world with his gifts as conductor and imaginative programming portfolio,” says Asadour Santourian, Vice President for Artistic Administration. “An ideal combination in one of our respected and cherished artists.”
On July 28, 2016 at Harris Concert Hall, Terrell returns to the Aspen Music Festival and School to conduct one of Aspen’s most esteemed alumni, star violinist Sarah Chang. Viva Piazzolla! With Sarah Chang, features two works by Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla. Terrell first brought Piazzolla’s opera María de Buenos Aires to life in Lexington during the 2012-2013 Season.
Viva Piazzolla! With Sarah Chang features Argentinean bandoneonist Héctor Del Curto for Piazzolla’s Bandoneón Concerto written for the classic tango instrument, followed by The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, a set of four tangos which depict the four seasons in the Argentine capital.
This fall, Terrell looks forward to another international conducting engagement with the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, Canada with guest artists Canadian Brass.
The performances run Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016 through Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016.Terrell last conducted Canadian Brass with the Hamilton Philharmonic at Home for the Holidays with the Canadian Brass on December 19, 2015 in Ontario Canada.
